Police scuttle kidnap attempt on 10 travellers, CP commends officers’ gallantry

Police in Katsina have scuttled a kidnap attempt on 10 travellers at Kwanar Makera in Jibia Council area of the state.
State Police Command spokesperson Abubakar Aliyu, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, confirmed the incident in a statement.
“Some suspected armed bandits, armed with dangerous weapons and shooting sporadically, attacked a commercial vehicle at Kwanar Makera on Katsina-Magama-Jibia road in Jibia LGA, in an attempt to kidnap 10 occupants of the said vehicle,” he recounted, per the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
“Upon receiving the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jibia, swiftly led a team of operatives to the scene, engaging the bandits in a gun duel.
“The team successfully foiled the kidnap attempt, and rescued all the 10 victims.”
Aliyu disclosed that four of the rescued victims received gunshot wounds from bandits’ attack and were rushed to hospital for immediate medical attention.
“Unfortunately, two victims succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment.”
Aliyu said investigation continues as efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
State Commissioner of Police Aliyu Abubakar-Musa commended the exceptional display of gallantry and dedication to duty by the officers, and charged them to sustain the tempo.
He urged the public to always give the police useful information on criminals’ activities for prompt and decisive action.
