Police have arrested and detained Wale Ogunsanmi, 43, who allegedly stabbed to death Shina Olaribigbe, bishop of Rapture Empowerment International, Osogbo, who was mediating in disagreements between the suspect and his wife.

The incident occurred at about 11:25pm on January 1 at the residence of Ogunsanmi’s estranged wife, where he reportedly found Olaribigbe.

Osun Police Command spokesperson Yemisi Opalola confirmed the arrest and provided details of the tragic event.

“We were informed that the pastor was at the woman’s house when the husband arrived,” Opalola narrated.

“The husband stabbed him several times, and he died. It is believed the husband acted on suspicion that the pastor was having an affair with his wife.”

According to the police, Ogunsanmi and his wife had been living apart for about a year due to marital disputes. Olaribigbe had been mediating in their conflicts before the separation.

The suspect allegedly broke into his wife’s residence and attacked Olaribigbe, who was reportedly in the bedroom in the house.

Police officers from Dugbe Division arrested Ogunsanmi at the scene, and recovered the weapon. Olaribigbe’s body has been deposited at the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital Mortuary for autopsy.

“The command is working to ensure justice is served,” Opalola said, adding that investigations are ongoing.

Wife hits husband with pestle, kills him in his sleep over childlessness

In another murder case elsewhere, police have arrested a housewife, Fatima Dzuma, who confessed to killing her husband Baba Aliyu with a pestle in his sleep at Lafiyagi Dzwafu village in Katcha Council of Niger State.

Sources in the village said Fatima, who was Aliyu’s junior wife, killed him following a fight they had earlier over her childlessness.

She married him about three years ago, and was yet to have a child with him, whereas the first wife had just given birth – Fatima’s lack of children having been a source of constant quarrel between her and her husband.

She reportedly told fellow villagers that she killed Aliyu and dumped his body in a bush because he had beaten her the night before, and she decided to take revenge without knowing he would die in the process.

Niger Police Command Public Relations Officer Wasiu Abiodun confirmed the incident and the arrest of Fatima as the suspect. He also confirmed that the body of Aliyu was found in a bush close to the house.

“She [Fatima] confessed that she used a pestle to hit her husband when he was asleep, and she later tied the deceased with clothes and rope and rolled the corpse to a nearby bush with a mat,” Abiodun disclosed.

“The corpse was taken to General Hospital Bida for post-mortem while the suspect was taken to custody. She will soon be transferred to SCID Minna for further investigation and prosecution.”
