Peterborough owner MacAnthony warns Declan Rice against playing too many matches, says ‘You’ll have the body of a 50-year-old at 30’

Rice featured in over 60 matches across all competitions for Arsenal and England throughout the 2025–26 season, including the World Cup.

​Chairman of EFL League One club Peterborough United, Darragh MacAnthony, has warned Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice against playing too many matches for club and country, stating he will have the body of a 50-year-old by the time he reaches 30.

​The Irishman gave the advice to the England midfielder during a recent appearance on talkSPORT.

​Rice was part of the Three Lions squad that secured the bronze medal at the recently concluded 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.

​The 27-year-old scored once and provided two assists in seven appearances for his country during the tournament.

​Prior to the World Cup, Rice helped Arsenal lift their first Premier League title in 22 years and reach the UEFA Champions League final.

​The former West Ham United midfielder featured in over 60 matches across all competitions for club and country throughout the 2025–26 season.

​Urging Rice to manage his workload, MacAnthony warned: “He will be burnt out by 30. He will have the body of a 50-year-old by the time he is 30!”
