Former Anambra State governor and the flag bearer of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi, on Wednesday, July 13 replied the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Tinubu after making a seemingly contemptuous remark during his party’s governorship rally in Osun State.

According to Obi, LP will return the hatred APC is spreading with love, and went on to argue ‘there is dignity in Labour’.

He said: “I listened to our chairman when he said that somebody said ‘they can labour till death’.

“When they show you hatred, Labour Party will show them love. There is dignity in labour.”

Tinubu during the final rally for the re-election of his party’s gubernatorial candidate, Gboyega Oyetola, on Tuesday, July 12, made a comment which was seen as unsportsmanlike.

He said, “They said some are in Labour, they will remain labourers till death”

He also appealed to the people of the state to support the APC candidate in the governorship poll to continue enjoying the dividends of democracy.

Also reacting to Tinubu’s statement,  the LP’s candidate, Lasun slammed the APC presidential flag bearer, saying his comment about his party is at variance with the character of a true Yoruba son.

Yusuf Lasun was the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria under the leadership of Yakubu Dogara.

He dumped the All Progressive Congress for Labour Party in April, after losing the APC gubernatorial ticket to Gboyega Oyetola, the current governor of the state in March.

He represented Irepodun/Olurunda/Osogbo/Orolu Federal Constituency of Osun State, under the umbrella of defunct ACN and APC between 2011-2019, before joining LP to gun for the governorship position in the upcoming 2022 election.
