Peter Obi camp denies 45m votes claim from alleged NDC primary

The media office of former Anambra State governor and presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, has dismissed reports circulating online claiming that he secured “45m primary votes” in a purported presidential primary election conducted by the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the spokesman of the Peter Obi Media Reach, Ibrahim Umar, the media office described the figures as “entirely false” and insisted that no such primary election was held.

“The attention of the Peter Obi Media Office has been drawn to certain 45m primary vote figures currently circulating on social media and various news platforms, purporting to be the breakdown of official results from an imaginary primary by the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC ascribed to Mr Peter Obi,” the statement read.

The office stated that the figures being circulated were fabricated and should be ignored by the public.

“We wish to state categorically that these figures are entirely false, fabricated, as such, the primary never took place and no figure was generated from any process,” Umar said.

He urged supporters, members of the public and the media to disregard the reports.

“We urge the general public, party supporters, and members of the press and the public to completely disregard these misleading statistics,” the statement added.

The media office further stressed that information concerning Obi’s political activities would only be released through official channels.

“Official and accurate information regarding Mr Peter Obi’s engagements and political processes will always be communicated through our verified and authorised channels and appropriately signed,” it said.

The statement also accused those behind the figures of attempting to involve Obi in fraudulent activities.

“Those behind this fraudulent figure attribution to Peter Obi are looking for partners in their fraud but they should look elsewhere not with Peter Obi,” the statement concluded.
