​Nollywood star, Deyemi Okanlawon, has disclosed why he decided to quit acting despite being passionate about the profession, saying the financial rewards did not match his effort.

​The 45-year-old thespian made this known recently while appearing as a guest on the latest episode of the CreativiTea podcast.

​Okanlawon briefly stepped away from acting in 2019 and took up a corporate role as the head of marketing for Silverbird Film Distribution.

​He, however, returned to the screen a year later after finding a better balance for his career.

​Justifying the decision to quit his acting career for about a year, Okanlawon stated that he did so after losing motivation.

​He further noted that he had to take the bold decision because he was no longer getting fulfilment from the job and that the ‘pay’ was not impressive.

​Speaking on the show, he said, “So, I quit acting in 2019. I quit because the pay was nonsense, the work was nonsense. And I just felt like I didn’t leave 9–5 work to come and do mediocre work.”

​Okanlawon added, “It was difficult to wake up in the morning and go to work, and what is the point of being passionate about something and then not being fulfilled by it? So I quit and then went back to 9–5 work.”
