British commentator and Arsenal legend Paul Merson has said he does not think English Premier League (EPL) giants Manchester United will finish among the top five teams this season.
He made this known while reviewing the Red Devils’ Premier League derby against their arch-rivals, Manchester City, on Sunday.
According to him, Manchester United lack the required squad depth to make the top five and qualify for top European competitions.

He added that Michael Carrick’s men are also not good defensively, citing that they recently conceded two goals against Everton in the league’s matchday three encounter.
“The squad is not big enough,” Merson said of Manchester United, as quoted by Sky Sports.
“Defensively, they are nowhere near good enough. They let in two goals against Everton.
“So I am worried, and this is why I didn’t put Manchester United in my top five at the start of the season. Nothing’s changed for me since then. When you draw games, it hurts you.”
