Chalobah was given the chance to break into the first-team squad during Chelseas’ UEFA Super Cup victory over Villarreal in August 2021. He made his Premier League debut three days later in Chelseas’ 3-0 win over Crystal Palace.

Paul Canoville who described Chalobah as an ‘unbelievable player’, said the center defender who is down to earth, took his chance when Thomas Tuchel availed him the opportunity.

“I love what the youth academy has done… Neil Bath especially.

“It is a project of getting the young players to understand how the first-team plays and acts.

“That is what they have picked up.

“As soon as they have come in, right away they understand the system and that’s what makes them gel, that is what makes them not look out of place – they look like they have been there for how long.

“Trevoh, he is unbelievable. So down to earth… family orientated.

“He was given his chance and he took it.

“That is what any young player wants to be, he wants to be in that first-team and when he gets in that first-team, he has to take his chance, and that is what Trevoh has done.

“He is still willing to learn and that’s the main thing, and he will continue to do that.”

Paul Canoville was signed by Chelsea from Hillingdon Borough in 1981 and went on to win the Second Division title with the club in 1983–84.
