Paris Olympic Games: World Champion Tobi Amusan named Team Nigeria flag bearer for opening ceremony

World 100mh Champion Tobi Amusan (12:12) has been named as Nigeria’s flagbearer for the opening ceremony of Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
She becomes the first athlete from Athletics in 20yrs after Mary Onyali at the Athens 2004 Games to be so honoured.
The Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC) also announced Badminton player, Anuoluwapo Opeyori as the General Team captain for Nigeria in Paris.
Meanwhile, athIetes to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games have expressed satisfaction with the Nigeria’s build-up to the competition.
The contingent have its foreign training programme in Saarbrucken, Germany, while the women’s football team camped in Spain.
Senator John Owan Enoh stated that both the domestic and foreign camping allowances have been disbursed to the athletes.
“Ensuring our athletes are well-prepared and motivated is a top priority. We are committed to providing all necessary support to help them excel on the global stage,” he said.
“Our athletes have shown incredible dedication and resilience, and we believe they are ready to make the nation proud.”
A total of 88 athletes will represent Nigeria in 12 different sports at the Olympic Games, which commence later this week.
“The support from the Ministry has been phenomenal,” said one of the athletes. “Knowing that we have the backing of our nation gives us the confidence to push harder and aim higher.”
The domestic training camp precedes the foreign tour which further prepared athletes under conditions similar to those in Paris.
