Oyo kidnap: Rescue my daughter-in-law, grandchildren — Woman begs Makinde

Days after teachers and pupils were kidnapped from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, a distraught woman has appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde to intensify efforts to secure the release of her daughter-in-law, four grandchildren and other victims taken captive.

The woman made the emotional appeal during the governor’s visit to the affected community on Saturday, pleading for urgent action to ensure the safe return of her family members still in captivity.

“Please have mercy on us. My daughter-in-law and four grandchildren are among the kidnapped victims. My daughter-in-law is the woman carrying a baby on her back, who spoke in a viral video. She is a teacher,” she said.

The abductees, including teachers, pupils and residents, were taken when armed men invaded schools and surrounding communities in the Esiele and Yawota areas of Oriire LGA.

The renewed appeal comes amid growing concern from families of victims, who continue to call on government and security agencies to intensify rescue operations.

During the governor’s visit, the husband of Mrs. Rachael Alamu, principal of Community High School, Esiele, also made an emotional appeal for the release of his wife and other abductees.

Expressing gratitude for government efforts so far, he urged the governor not to relent until all captives are freed.

“I’m the husband of the principal of Community High School, Esiele, who was kidnapped by gunmen… we know your efforts since the incident occurred,” he said.

He also insisted that the governor should remain committed to the rescue mission.

“All our people being held captive… please don’t get tired, sir. It is my wife who they have been using to make videos being spread around. It is very disheartening and depressing,” he added.

The husband praised Makinde’s track record in the state, expressing confidence in his ability to secure the release of the victims.

The Oyo State Government and security agencies are yet to provide further details on ongoing rescue operations, but efforts are said to be ongoing to locate the abductors and secure the victims’ release.
