Oyo govt demolishes house of Yoruba nation agitators’ alleged sponsor, Onitiri-Abiola over invasion of secretariat

The Oyo State government, on Wednesday demolished a building belonging to Modupe Onitiri-Abiola, one of the alleged sponsors of Saturday’s attack on the government secretariat.

TheNiche had prior to this reported that some people who claimed to be Yoruba nation agitators stormed the Oyo State secretariat on Saturday in a bid to take over the House of Assembly.

The government has now taken action by demolishing the building where Onitiri-Abiola allegedly declared Yoruba nation.

As at the time of this report a larger part of the building was completely demolished while a part was left standing.

Confirming the development, Fatai Owoseni, Special Adviser on Security Matters to Governor Seyi Makinde, told j journalists to contact the police for further details. 

Owoseni in a brief telephone conversation said, “You can get more details from the Commissioner of Police”.

Meanwhile, the 29 suspected members of the Yoruba Nation, arrested in connection with last Saturday’s invasion of the Oyo State House of Assembly and the Governor’s office were, yesterday, arraigned in court.

The suspects are standing trial before the Chief Magistrate Court for their involvement in the invasion which ruptured the peace of Ibadan metropolis and its environs.

They were arraigned on a seven-count charge which borders on treasonable felony and unlawful society before an Iyaganku Magistrate Court in Ibadan.

Other charges against the accused are illegal possession of firearms, and conduct likely to cause breach of peace of the society.

The suspects were charged by the Investigative Police Officer, Bakare Rasaq, an Inspector with the State Criminal Investigation Department in Iyaganku in Ibadan.

The offences levelled against them in the charge sheet marked Mi/520c/2024, according to the police, is in contravention of Section 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol.II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebola Hamzat had paraded 21 suspects on Monday, while eight more suspects were later arrested in connection with the crime.
