By Mercy Ajekigbe
Peter Obi congratulates Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election following the governorship election held on Saturday, August 15, 2026. He also commended the people of Osun State for safeguarding the democratic process and exercising their right to elect their governor.
Obi, however, urged Nigerians not to forget those who paid the ultimate price during the election. He expressed sympathy towards the families of those who lost their lives to political violence and called for the families to be identified, visited, and appropriately compensated, irrespective of their political affiliations.
“I believe these families deserve our collective compassion, solidarity, and support. I therefore hope that the families of those who lost their loved ones will be identified and reached through visits, condolences, and appropriate compensation, irrespective of the political side to which they belonged”
Obi stressed that political victory should never come at the cost of the lives of Nigerians. He called for the promotion of a democratic process that upholds the rule of law, protects lives, and places the people at the centre of governance.
He made the remarks in an official statement signed by him and shared on his official X handle
