Osinbajo heads NEC Committee on herdsmen-Famers’ crisis

-

The National Economic Council (NEC) has constituted a 10-man working committee to address killings by suspected herdsmen.

The committee is headed by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and has the governors of Kaduna, Zamfara, Taraba, Benue, Adamawa, Edo, Plateau, Oyo, and Ebonyi states as members.

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State told State House correspondents after the first NEC meeting of the year ended in Abuja on Thursday that the committee would collaborate with the Federal Government to address “the issues of impunity regarding killings and violence”.

He also said the committee would work to ensure that all those behind the violence and killings are caught and prosecuted.

The council also agreed that the Federal Government would intervene in states hit by a fresh outbreak of Lassa fever.

“It was agreed that the Federal Government is going to intervene very quickly in the case of Ebonyi and Ogun states where this (Lassa fever) epidemic has developed,” Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi said.
