Only 200 youths registered for Army recruitment in South-East, official raises concern
By Jeffrey Agbo
The Nigerian Army has expressed concern over the low turnout of applicants from the South-East region for its ongoing recruitment exercise, with only 200 youths reportedly registered so far.
Leader of the Army Force Headquarters Recruitment Sensitisation Team in Anambra State, Brigadier-General Chima Ekeator, revealed the figure during a sensitisation meeting with youth leaders and community President-Generals (P-Gs).
“This sensitisation is necessary because, according to records, only 200 persons have registered from the South-East, while in other states, not less than 4,000 persons have registered,” Ekeator stated.

He emphasised the need for increased awareness and community engagement to boost participation, urging local leaders to encourage youths to take advantage of the opportunity.
“Increased youth participation will enhance the representation of the South-East in the force, ensuring that the region’s quota is fully utilised,” he added.
In support of the campaign, Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, assured that the state government would intensify efforts to mobilise young people. Represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Patrick Aghambah, Soludo called on traditional rulers and P-Gs to each mobilise at least 10 youths from their communities to enlist in the army.
Also speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne, highlighted that the recruitment is aimed at youths between the ages of 18 and 22. He encouraged eligible candidates across the South-East to seize the opportunity and serve their country.
