One dies, 16 escape Lagos boat mishap

The National Inland Waterways Authority has disclosed that one person has died following a boat mishap on Lagos water that involves a seventeen seater watercraft.

NIWA also noted that a total of 16 Passengers were rescued during the mishap which occurred at about 1635hrs local time.

A statement TheNiche obtained from the Lagos Area Manager NIWA Engr. Sarat Lara Braimoh on Monday explained that a seventeen passengers boat named “TEMI 3 Global” departed CMS Ferry Terminal at 1635hrs in route Ikorodu Ferry Terminal on 27th September 2021 was involved in an accident.

She noted that fifteen minutes into the journey near Adekunle Waterfront, the boat hit an underwater obstacle which broke the hull of the boat and this resulted in the capsize of the boat.

According to her, there was an immediate response on mobilization to the site of the incident by the National Inland Waterways Authority Authority Search and Rescue Team, LASWA, Marine Police, Fishermen and other boat operators leading to the rescue of sixteen persons alive while one person died on the way to the hospital.

“We sincerely condole with the family of the deceased and pray for the soul of the dead to rest in perfect peace,” she noted
