Ondo judiciary workers suspend strike

By Jeffrey Agbo

Judicial workers in Ondo State have called off their indefinite strike following the state government’s commitment to implementing financial autonomy for the judiciary.

The strike, which began on June 13, was suspended on Wednesday after the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Ondo State Branch, said meaningful progress had been made in negotiations.

In a statement issued in Akure by the union’s state secretary, Mr. Kehinde Alade, JUSUN confirmed that the government has agreed to key demands, including the judiciary’s right to manage its funds independently beginning in July.

Alade stated that the government has also promised to set up a committee to fast-track full implementation of the agreement within a reasonable timeframe.

“In view of this development, JUSUN members are hereby directed to resume work with immediate effect,” the statement read. “We will continue to engage with the government until the implementation of our demands in July.”

The union expressed cautious optimism, saying it will monitor progress closely to ensure the government upholds its commitments.
