Ondo govt embarks on massive solar-powered borehole installation —Commissioner Akande
By Julius Alabi,
The Ondo State Commissioner for Water Resources, Public Sanitation and Hygiene, Hon. Ayodele Akande, has disclosed that the state government has commenced the massive installation of solar-powered boreholes in strategic locations across the state.
In statement issued by the Head, Media and Publicity Unit of the Ministry stated that the Commissioner made this known while speaking on a live radio programme on Fresh 102.9 FM, Akure, where he highlighted the ongoing efforts of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s administration to improve access to clean and safe water for residents.
According to him, the solar-powered borehole initiative is part of the state government’s broader agenda to strengthen water infrastructure and promote sustainable solutions that will serve communities efficiently and at minimal cost.
The Commissioner noted that the use of solar energy is both environmentally friendly and economically sustainable, especially in rural and semi-urban areas where electricity supply remains unstable.
He added that solar-powered facilities ensure uninterrupted access to water, reduce maintenance costs, and support the state’s clean energy transition agenda.
Akande said the intervention aligns with Governor Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to public health and environmental sanitation, stressing that access to potable water remains critical in reducing water-borne diseases and improving quality of life.
He further assured that the ministry would continue to collaborate with local and international partners to expand the water supply network, particularly in underserved communities, in line with the government’s vision of equitable resource distribution.
Akande called on residents to support the government’s initiatives by safeguarding public facilities and maintaining proper hygiene practices, emphasizing that water and sanitation remain collective responsibilities.
