Onanuga denies sack of defence, power ministers, urges security agencies to take action

Special Adviser to President Bola Tínubu on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga has refuted claims that his principal has sacked the Ministers of Defence, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, Mohammed Bello Matawalle, and that of Power, Adebayo Adelabu. 

He made the clarification in a recent post he shared via his official X handle.

Onanuga was reacting to reports by some media houses, that President Tinubu sacked the three ministers for performing poorly. 

While speaking on the development, the president’s media aide described the information as fake, adding that it was meant to cause disturbance.

He went on to urge security agencies to hold news outlets spreading the false narrative accountable, noting that freedom of speech does not mean people should “wake up and concoct their news”

Onanuga wrote, “Security agencies must urgently take action against fake news websites and platforms and the purveyors who fail to check the authenticity of the stories and make them go viral.

“Press freedom and freedom of speech will not exist when some people can wake up and concoct their news and narratives without regard for truth. Fake news is simply licentiousness and must be criminalised.”
