Former Super Eagles midfielder Sunday Oliseh has applauded Ademola Lookman’s impressive display in Atletico Madrid’s narrow 2-1 loss to Barcelona in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) quarter-final on Tuesday night.

The Nigerian tactician heaped praise on the forward late on Tuesday night in a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

Barcelona went in front in the first half of the game courtesy of goals from Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres.

However, Lookman fired home from a quick counter-attack to pull a goal back in the 31st minute of the encounter.

His goal eventually proved decisive; Atletico’s 2-0 victory in the first leg at the Spotify Camp Nou last week ensured Diego Simeone’s side progressed to the semi-finals of the UCL with a 3-2 aggregate win.

Speaking after the match, Oliseh labelled his compatriot the “difference maker” for the Rojiblancos.

He also commended Lookman for showing immense “maturity” in such a high-stakes European competition.

“Talk about being an absolutely influential player! I am extremely happy for Lookman. His goal made the difference. He is also showing a level of maturity that is quite remarkable,” Oliseh said.

Also eulogising the 28-year-old striker, Atlético Madrid head coach Diego Simeone noted that Lookman still has more to offer the team.

Speaking after his side secured their semi-final place on Tuesday, the Argentine hailed the winger’s brilliance, insisting there is more to come.

The gaffer said: “He’s brilliant offensively and very good one-on-one. We want more from him, and he still has more in the tank.”
