Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, Nigeria’s former Minister of Finance, alongside three other women, has been appointed an Ambassador of the Open Government Partnership.
The Open Government Partnership is a multilateral initiative that aims to secure concrete commitments from governments to promote transparency, empower citizens, fight corruption, and harness new technologies to strengthen governance.
The OGP, as the organisation is popularly called, is overseen by a Steering Committee including representatives of governments and civil society organizations.
The Ambassadors were invited by the organization’s Steering Committee for their commitment to open government, as well as their storied careers and legacies fighting for citizen participation and empowerment.

Open Government Partnership, are the Right Honorable Helen Clark, the former Prime Minister of New Zealand and former United Nations Development Programme administrator; Helle Thorning-Schmidt, the former Prime Minister of Denmark and current CEO of Save the Children; Alicia Bárcena, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean.
