Rivers Angels chief coach, Edwin Okon, has revealed that he has the target of leading his team to win the Nigerian women’s Federation Cup for the sixth time.
After leading his girls to beat COD Ladies 4-1, he expressed satisfaction with the performance of his ladies despite not having their full compliments, as some of them are with the U-20 team.
He said: “I thank God for the victory. FA Cup is not a thing that you joke over and I have seen improvement in the team because we played them last year and there’s improvement this year. Last year, it was six, today is four; so I want to say there’s improvement.
“We are the defending champions; you can as well see the way the team plays. We’ll try as much as we can. Some of our players are in the U-20 (national team) that are supposed to beef up the team, but all the same we can’t stop the national assignment; we just make do with what we have to the finals. Our target is just the cup because we’re the defending champions.
“We want to win it for the sixth time; we’ve won it five good times.”
Rivers Angels’ goals were scored by Mercy Amanze (13th minute), Ayila Loveth (16th minute), while Ijeoma Emenike got her brace in the 40th and 65th minutes.
COD’s only goal came through the foot of Monday Gift in the 47th minute.
