Odoh reveals secret of current form

IBB Golf and Country Club assistant resident professional, Oche Odoh, is hoping for a successful ending of the season.

After warding off stiff challenge from defending champion and older brother, Martin Odoh, to win the 2014 Olu of Warri trophy, the younger Odoh has revealed the secrets behind his current form in the ongoing season.

He said: “All aspects of my game are improving right now and I’m really excited about that. I have done quite some work to get back there; so I can say that hard work and dedication has returned me to shape.

“Ball striking, chipping and putting, for me, are experiencing a lot of good times, though my putting is not great yet. But I’m determined to improve on it because I want to end this season on a high note.”

The former Professional Golfers Association of Nigeria (PGAN) Order of Merit leader is to take a short 20-day trip to South Africa to rub minds with his coach and play in one or two events before returning to be part of the remaining events that are lined up for the year which includes the Glo Africa Tour.

With his victory at the Olu of Warri tournament, Odoh has won three of the last four events on the Nigerian Tour. His latest victory was, however, his fourth this year.

Victories obtained locally were at Annol Ventures Pro-Am in Lagos; Brittania U-Open in Otukpo; and the Olu of Warri tourney.

In May, he became the third Nigerian to win the Cameroun Open International Golf Championship which recently ended at the Likomba Golf Club, Tiko, in the outskirts of Douala, Cameroun.

Odoh, who finished his third round top of the log, after carding -3 under par at the Olu of Warri tourney, held on to win the tournament with seven shots as he carded -6.

Kabiru Mohammed of Kano Golf Club and Amos Korblah of Otukpo Golf and Country Club finished second and third, in that order.
