Former Minister of Education and economic policy expert Oby Ezekwesili has alleged that fighting terrorism in Nigeria has become a costly industry from which “people who have the levers of power” benefit.
The 63-year-old activist made this known recently while appearing as a guest on a programme on News Central Television.
Ezekwesili argued that, despite trillions of naira being spent, citizens’ lives remain endangered due to poor governance and weak accountability.

According to her, playing with the lives of citizens sends a signal to enemies that the government does not care about its people.
”Fighting terrorism is now an industry from which people who have the levers of power, starting from the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to the military establishment, are benefiting,” Ezekwesili said during the interview.
She added, “They need to be telling Nigerians what the performance is from the kind of trillions of naira that have allegedly been used to fight insecurity in the country. The results point to the fact of poor governance.”
While wading into state police, the former minister noted that if the country had good governance, clarity of mandates would be observed.
