Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki has stirred greater fervour in Obidients to root for Peter Obi by saying supporters of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) will run out of fuel in trying to power him across the finishing line.

“People who say they are Obidients, of course, they will be but they will run out of steam. We know how to manage elections, how many people have been able to do what we are doing?

“They can’t even form their campaign council not to talk about having a timetable for election, you get it,” Obaseki said at the inauguration of the Edo Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Campaign Council in Benin City on Monday.

Obi’s supporters reacted on Twitter by reinvigorating their support for him, telling Obaseki to watch out, as collated below by The PUNCH.

“They thought we are tired. If only they know how prepared we are. People are busy doing underground work for PO. From December, you are going to see men spring out from all angles to the needful. PO is coming …”

@TheCuriousMind1

“Out of steam with just three months to the election? As long as there’s hunger, poverty and insecurity, my brother Obaseki, steam will be increasing even more. So think well.”

@Albazzini

“Gov Obaseki knows that his household would vote for Peter Obi. His cabinet and Edolites are Obidient.

“He should stop deceiving Atiku. 2023 is around the corner and no amount of running down would stop the movement. Nigerians would #VoteWisely.”

Obidients threaten survival of APC, PDP, says Obaseki

Obaseki had raised the alarm over Obidients in June when he said the PDP came third behind the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the Ekiti governorship ballot because Nigerians are looking for alternatives.

He cited how the youth have found their voice in Obi and “call themselves Obidients” who are fed up and could spell doom for the two major parties, the PDP and All Progressives Congress (APC).

“How can PDP, they were not even number two [in the Ekiti election]. So, you can see that something is going on, and we do not want this to be the trend,” Obaseki said.

“The future of our politics in this country is changing. I don’t know whether you are closely watching what is going on. The level of disenchantment with our existing parties!

“I’m sure in all our homes here, we have so many people now who call themselves Obidients. I don’t know whether you have them in your house. Just ask them which party are you, they say Obidients.

“They don’t want us. They are not talking about APC or PDP. They are looking for alternatives. And they are much more. You see all of them queuing for PVCs.

“They are not looking at the direction of APC or PDP. They are looking for alternatives. And if we don’t make our party attractive, I don’t know what will happen in the next election.”
