Ahead of the 2027 presidential election, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has pledged that the Obi/Kwankwaso movement will not provide money to party agents to induce voters during the polls.
He made the vow on Monday while fielding questions at a town hall meeting in Sokoto after he and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, visited the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, at his palace in Sokoto.
The NDC flag-bearer and the former Kano State governor were accompanied to the Sultan’s palace by the party’s Sokoto State governorship candidate, Dr Shamsu Haido, among other party faithful.

The visit came two weeks after the 2027 All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), led by the council’s Director-General, Senator Abdul-Aziz Abubakar Yari, visited the monarch.
Speaking while addressing party faithful after the courtesy visit, Obi called the practice of giving money to voters on election day vote-buying, stressing that it was among the factors contributing to the persistence of poverty in the country.
“We are not ready to give money to party agents to entice voters. That is vote-buying, and it is part of the reason why poverty continues to rise in the country,” Obi said.
The former Anambra State governor further assured that adequate security arrangements would be made to protect voters and ensure that votes were properly counted and recorded.
