Peter Obi, who is relishing carnival audiences in Benin City and Owerri in his latest stumpings, has expressed confidence his Labour Party (LP) will win the Imo governorship vote on November 11 and dislodge Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Government House.

Obi – LP candidate himself anticipating to become President if the courts fire Bola Tinubu from Aso Rock over alleged criminal electoral enterprise – cited at a rally in Owerri the emergence of LP’s Alex Otti as Governor in neighbouring Abia to buttress his belief the party will also carry Imo.

He was speaking at the inauguration of the campaign of LP Imo governorship candidate Athan Achonu, where he reiterated the LP is known for performance and excellence.

Using Abia which the LP controls as an example of good governance, Obi said Abians now have hope and are witnessing good governance because a “first-class brain” who knows what he is doing is now their Governor.

He described Achonu as the only LP governorship candidate in Imo, and Julius Abure the only recognised and authentic LP National Chairman.

Obi urged Imolites to come out en masse and vote Achonu on November 11, stressing the primary process that produced him was credible.

“Abure is the National Chairman of our party. We don’t have another Chairman. LP will win Imo State. Athan Achonu is the only candidate of the party and he is the best in Imo State. I am happy nobody has changed the process. I believe in process,” he said.

LP ‘wants to change Nigeria’ for the better

“LP wants to change Nigeria. We are asking Nigeria for the opportunity. Give us chance in Nigeria, there will be change. In Abia State today, there is hope, that is what is called governance,” Obi added, according to The PUNCH.

“We want Nigeria to have leaders that will do what they preach. We know what it takes to change Nigeria. That is why we are here. We know what it takes to change Imo.

“I believe in process. Achonu emerged through the right process. Vote for LP and things will start happening.”

Otti affirmed he was the Chairman of the panel that conducted the primary election that produced Achonu, and urged Imolites to vote for him.

He added: “Athan Achonu is the only governorship candidate of the party. I was the chairman of the panel that conducted the primary election which produced him as the winner of the election.

“I am here to bear testimony that he is our candidate for the November 11 governorship election in Imo State.

“We have not even started in Abia but the noise [of our success] is everywhere. We are less than 100 days in office in Abia. Labour Party is known for governance. Vote for the Labour Party.”

PDP and APC have ‘failed Nigerians,’ says Abure

Abure equally expressed confidence the LP would form the next government in Imo because the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the APC have failed Nigerians, and the people of Imo in particular.

“We will change the economic narratives of Imo State. Athan Achonu is the only governorship candidate of Labour Party in Imo State,” Abure said.

“LP is founded on integrity, performance. The PDP and APC have failed. We have tried PDP and APC and they failed. Their results are insecurity, poverty and infrastructural decay.

“Labour Party has come to change the narratives. Vote Athan Achonu, vote LP come November 11.”

Speaking after Abure handed the LP flag to him, Achonu promised to fix the state if elected Governor.

He pledged that, on assumption of office, he would conduct council election, fix  roads and electricity, end insecurity, and ensure  civil servants and pensioners are promptly paid.

Achonu, who has lost his right hand, said if elected, he would make history by becoming the first physically challenged person to emerge a Governor.

“Labour Party will rescue Nigeria. We will win Imo State, Enugu, Kogi and Bayelsa states,” he enthused.

“There won’t be bloodshed in Imo State again from November 11 when I become Governor. People’s houses won’t be burnt again. Once I become Governor, I will implement the authonomy of the Local Government Areas.

“I will do LGA election. I will not tamper with the local government funds. I will ensure infrastructural development. I am known for human capital development.

“Imo people are suffering. The civil servants and pensioners are suffering. Once I become Governor, they will be taken care of properly.

“I will invest in the health sector. The APC government is the more you look, the less you see.”
