The Labour Party (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has made it clear to politicians and other parties intending to rig elections in the 2027 general elections that the votes of Nigerians “must count”.

He made the declaration on Monday in a now-trending post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) page.

In the statement, the former Anambra State governor warned that anyone who attempts to undermine the electoral process during the poll will face legal consequences.

He stressed that, unlike in previous elections, Nigerians would insist that every valid vote is counted and properly recorded.

He further urged citizens to remain at their polling units after casting their ballots to witness the counting and transmission of results.

He went on to insist that electoral transparency is critical to safeguarding the country’s democracy.

Speaking via his verified handle, Obi said: “Unlike in the past, in 2027 our votes MUST count, and all those who are there not to count the votes will be counted among those destroying Nigeria.

“I encourage everyone to remain at the polling units after voting to witness the counting and transmission of results. Those who refuse to allow the votes to count will be made to feel the full weight of the law against rigging.

“Let me reiterate: if you do not count our votes, we will count you among those who destroy our democracy, thereby destroying our future, and you must answer to the law.”
