Labour Party (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has urged the Super Eagles not to let their loss to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) dampen their morale.
He gave the advice on Monday in a now-trending post he shared on his official X page.

The Super Eagles on Sunday night missed out on the opportunity to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after losing to the Leopards of DR Congo in the final round of the CAF playoff.
Nigeria took an early lead in the fourth minute when Brentford midfielder, Frank Onyeka’s shot was deflected in.
DR Congo, however, equalized in the 32nd minute through Mechak Elia, sending the match to a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes.
The Leopards went on to defeat Eric Chelle’s men on penalties and clinched the ticket to represent Africa at the intercontinental playoffs taking place next March in Mexico.

Reacting to the loss, Obi acknowledged “the hard work, sacrifice, and commitment” the players put into their matches.
He went on to urge them not to let the defeat break their spirit, adding that “great teams are defined by their response to adversity.”
The former Anambra governor also said he is confident that the Nigerian team will “rise stronger” despite the setback.
Speaking via his verified social media handle, Obi wrote, “Our dear Super Eagles, I know how deeply yesterday’s outcome weighs on each of you. When you wear the green and white, you carry the heartbeat of the whole nation, and I acknowledge the hard work, sacrifice, and commitment you put into every match.
“But let this moment not break your spirit. Great teams are defined by their response to adversity. What matters now is how we stand, regroup, and rebuild with even greater discipline, focus, and preparedness. I am confident you can rise stronger.
“Do not let today overshadow the greatness of tomorrow. The Eagle never bows its head, it lifts its wings. Keep your heads high and stay committed.
“Nigeria believes in you, and together, we will soar again. Keep soaring Super Eagles.”
