NYSC expels fake UNICAL graduates from national service, among them a “bread seller”

NYSC expels fake UNICAL graduates, voids 178 national service certificates

A bread seller is among 54 fake graduates of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) who illegally mobilised for national service have been discovered and expelled by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

NYSC Director General Yusha’u Ahmed, a Brigadier General, disclosed in a statement issued in Abuja at the weekend the fake corps members will be prosecuted.

The statement, issued through NYSC Information and Public Relations Director Eddy Megwa, said besides the fake corps members caught and expelled, 19 other fraudsters who attempted to register online for mobilization were prevented from doing so.

NYSC voids 178 national service certificates

Four certificates of national service were withheld due to irregularities, the statement added.

The NYSC had earlier voided 101 certificates of national service, which brought the total number of voided certificates to 178.

Ahmed commended UNICAL Vice Chancellor Florence Obi, a professor, for reporting the illegal mobilisation from the school and gave an assurance the NYSC would intensify collaboration with all heads of corps producing institutions and other stakeholders to prevent future occurrence of the scam.

He urged employers to verify the authenticity of the certificates of national service presented by job applicants.

“The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar came here to report that she observed some names appeared on the institution’s list that ought not to have been there,” the statement recounted.

“I give kudos to the Vice Chancellor. Previously, a bread seller was mobilised on the graduation list from the same institution.

“There are bad eggs in many places that generate matriculation numbers and courses for their candidates.

“Those who are responsible for inputting the data of graduates should be people of integrity.”
