No fewer than 1,130 Corps members of 2019 Batch ‘B’ Stream One have been trained and graduated under the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Yobe State.
Mrs. Grace J Adzer, the coordinator of NYSC in the state, declared that the SAED programme closed at the Potiskum Temporary Camp site.
Adzer said that the programme, which was started by the NYSC, was geared towards empowering Corps members with marketable and entrepreneurial skills as a solution to scarce job opportunities in the country.
She explained: “The purpose of this training is to equip you with marketable skills that can engage you economically before you get that white collar job.
Adzer also said that the Corps members were also exposed to numerous skills and idea for future development, while
wishing them well as they concluded the SAED programme.
She urged them to create value in the society with the knowledge they garnered.
“Hold on to this training and develop it because if you follow it with passion, you can be job creators yourselves, take SAED training very serious,” she said.
Also, the Head of SAED NYSC Programme, Ibrahim Margima Ishidi, said that the Corps members were trained in different skills, including solar and inverter installation, photography, knitting, bead making, tailoring, fashion design, shoe making, rabbitry, food processing, ICT, aluminum fabrication and installation and building and construction among others.
Some of the Corps members who took part in the training lauded the NYSC scheme for the discipline and knowledge they received during the training and promised to build on them.
Olaiya Faith, graduate of Federal University, Abeukuta, was trained on film and photography. She said she could now embark on a photography business because of the skills acquired.
“I sincerely appreciate the government and the NYSC for initiating the SAED programme, photography is a very profitable entrepreneurship. I will practicalize what I have learnt and set up my own business so as to become employer of labor thereby assisting the economy of my community. I will distinguish myself from the non-skilled photographers”.
Nzelogu Victor Chibueze, graduate of mass communication from Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, who was trained in building and bricks making, vowed to set up a business after his service year in his community.
He further said that he would soon become employer of labor.
