NYG 2024: Delta State poised to retain Youth Games title

Delta State will host a memorable National Youth Games that would go down in the annals of the games as an improvement on the previous edition.

The Director-General of the State Sports Commission, Mr. Festus Ohwojero stated this during a chat with newsmen in Asaba.

Mr. Ohwojero said the 8th edition of the National Youth Games to be hosted by Delta State at the Steven Keshi International Stadium would see new innovation and artistic displays that will narrate the State rich culture and sporting historic.

The Director-General said the State was ready as the facilities used for the last edition of the National Youth Games were still intact, even though they would get a face lift.

He assured that the challenges at the last edition of the Games had been attended to saying quality accommodations have already been secured for the participating teams in a bid to make their stay and competition a memorable one.

Mr. Ohwojero also revealed that Team Delta was not ready to religuish its number one spot in Nigerian Sports setor, saying to this end Team Delta Athletes to this years National Youth Games have intensified its preparation in a bid to retain its title.

According to the Director-General of the Delta State Sports Commission, the Coaches and athletes have been in open Camping to ensure they are adequately prepared to successfully defend its title.
Team Delta had won the seven editions of the National Youth Games since its inception in 2013 and would be seeking to sustain its stranglehold in the Cadet Youth Games when Delta hosts the rest of Nigeria at Steven Keshi International Statium Asaba next month.

Meanwhile over seven thousand athletes and officials from the 36 State and FCT are expected to take part in the 8th edition of the National Youth Games next month.

The competition is meant for U-15 Athletes across the nation.
