The Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP) has congratulated the president –elect, retired Maj.Gen. Muhammadu Buhari on his success at the March 28 presidential poll.
This is contained in a congratulatory message signed by the union’s National President, Mr Abel Afolayan and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja.
It stated that the victory of the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate should be seen as a victory for Nigerian democracy and collective progress of the nation.
According to the statement, the NUP also praised President Goodluck Jonathan for conceding defeat, adding that Jonathan exhibited the spirit of a true democrat.
The union said that the vigilance of all stakeholders ensured that Nigeria had a smooth Presidential and National Assembly election devoid of controversy.
It expressed its readiness to work with the president-elect to define a new agenda for Nigeria as well as aggressively address the plight of federal and state pensioners.
