The Pan-Igbo cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo in the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, has called on Ndigbo worldwide to work for the emergence of an Igbo man as president of Nigeria in 2023.
The group eqully commended the President-General of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief John Nnia Nwodo, for the “well-articulated plans” that united the Igbo, particularly political intricacies that snowballed into the quit notice and attendant consequences that almost destabilized Nigeria.
In a communiqué issued at the end of its meeting at Doko International Hotel, Minna, over the weekend, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo in 19 northern states and Abuja argued that, as major stakeholder the Igbo man can no longer play ‘second class citizen’ in Nigeria.
The position of the group on the national polity was signed by the President and Secretary Ohanaeze Ndigbo 19 northern states and Abuja, Chief Austin Chimezie, and Ahaiwe Jonnie, in Minna on Sunday.
The group, which expressed its support for rotational Presidency, said that the Igbo man played very significant role in the making of the Nigerian nation from the pre-and post-colonial era and so would no longer accept being relegated to the background in the Nigerian business.
The group also urged all the Igbo in the north to start building bounds of friendship and bridges of understanding across many tribes and tongues in the region for an Igbo to emerge Nigeria’s president in 2023.
The group expressed displeasure for federal government policies that promote inequality, hatred and injustice among the ranks of Nigerian citizens, saying, “The Ohanaeze Ndigbo in 19 northern states and Abuja is in the forefront of advocating for peace in Nigeria to live in harmony with our host communities we found ourselves in the north.
“We encourage the Igbo in the northern to make more friends for Ndigbo as an important step for galvanizing support for the Igbo man’s desire to produce the President of Federal Republic of Nigeria”.
