Twitter users in Nigeria can identify a good personality. They also know the toxic ones. They either make them laugh, educate or motivate them.
Here are a few of Nigeria’s most amazing Twitter personalities in 2018 in no particular order.
Dr. Joe Abah
In his bio, he tells you what he is most passionate about and does a good job at delivering on them. Abah is a suave personality. Engage him, you would think he is a millennial.
He tweets on sports, politics, career and the economy. He does not shy away from a ‘tweet-fight’. His tweets are always centered on setting the records straight whenever there is a public debate on issues in governance that the public is not well aware of. And he is not selfish with retweets.
When a follower doubted his claim to having a doctorate degree, Abah was quick to point him to his thesis which he said is online and cheekily asked the follower where he could find his. His analysis about the former Finance Minister, Kemi Adeosun left many feeling remorseful for having lost such a gem to a scandal like the NYSC certificate forgery.
Ebube The Statesman
His satirical tweets will always leave you in stitches. His queer way of analyzing politics in Nigeria has endeared him to his followers. He uses sports, especially football, to analyze political events and uses politics to analyze sports.
You will always know where Ebube stands on political issues.
Dr. Dipo
In the poll leading up to this article, Dipo made a very good showing. A lot of those who voted for him said his tweets on career gave them a push to aspire for more. Dipo will not only provide you with career advice but is always willing to lend a hand to those who are in a career wilderness. Once a follower was wowed when Dipo returned his resume completely revamped for free.
His #SMEThursdayWithDipo gives Twitter users the opportunity to showcase their crafts and hustle. Feelers show that many businesses have been transacted under the hashtag.
He is a career coach, public speaker and owns BTDHUB where “We Inspire & Empower Young Professionals to Fulfill their Potential.”
Deji Adeyanju
Controversial with his tweets, Deji has carved a niche for himself on Twitter as a strong critic of the government and bad government policies. His recent arrest and detention showed how popular he is when a lot of Twitter users changed their usernames to Deji Adeyanju in solidarity with the activist.
He has since been rearrested for a 2009 murder charge which people say he stood trial for and was acquitted.
Segalink (Segun Awosanya)
Known more for his twitter handle than for his real name, Segun Awosanya is a champion of the #EndSars campaign and has been called the people’s president. He does not shy away from taking on the authorities whenever they err.
Segalink is on call 24 hours daily. He and his team of civil society organisations have put the government on their toes. He is one those instrumental to the reforms going on now in the Nigeria Police, especially in the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). He has used social media, especially Twitter, to bring order and to make the police responsible.
Once an OAP reached out to him in the dead of the night when she was held at gunpoint by policemen who were bent on extorting her, a single tweet to Segalink was all it took for her to be let off the hook by them.
JJ Omojuwa
Many believe he has toned down a lot and has settled down to the business side of things, but Japhet Omojuwa remains a delight to so many people on Twitter.
The owner of AlphaReach can dive deep into issues but does not take kindly to trolls. This is why in the poll leading to this article, a voter asked if Omojuwa hasn’t blocked the whole Nigeria yet since, according to him, Omojuwa does not hesitate in hitting the block button on those with dissenting views.
But aside that, Omojuwa does a lot of financial giveaways on Twitter. He is that selfless.
Farooq Kperogi
He is a data-driven analyst, though many would disagree because of his stance on politics of the day. But Kperogi can use data to explain facts and educate. He brings it home with his tweets and makes you feel the pulse as if you are directly involved.
He is not tired when digging for facts to support his views and he does a pretty good job at convincing the naysayers.
