A tweet by President Muhammadu Buhari’s assistant on social media, Bashir Ahmad, has provoked angry reactions from Nigerians.
He quoted a Daily Trust article of April 1 where an eight-year-old girl from Delta State told President Buhari in a letter that she would donate her saving of N2,350 to the COVID-19 fight.
This is at a time when Nigerians are been berating the federal government for asking them to sit-at-home without making plans for their feeding.
The Daily Trust report did not mention how it came about the information, a standard practice in news reporting.
ThankGod Ukachukwu, in a tweet, disputed the report. “This is the packaging they used to deceive people in 2015. They have started again. Is Buhari running for a third term?” he queried.
For @Makwechukwu1, his reaction is not different. “Bros, all these format no dey work again.”
@Tee_Classiquem1 also said: “Bashir and his master really don’t rate us anymore. I am so pained.”
@Kanid_Saint simply asked: “And the FG collected?”
@Bilyamin-koko said: “If I want to donate N5,000, who should I give?”
