Nigeria goalkeeper, Okoye, wants to leave Watford

Okoye who linked up with Championship side, Watford from Sparta Rotterdam in the summer is eyeing a loan move back to the Eredivisie

Super Eagles shot-stopper, Maduka Okoye has said he is open to returning to the Dutch League, after finding opportunities hard to come by at London outfit, Watford. 

Okoye, linked up with the Hornets from Eredivisie club, Sparta Rotterdam, in the summer but is yet to make a single appearance for the London side in the league matches.

The 23-year-old Nigerian has featured just once for the Sky Bet Championship club, Watford in the Carabao Cup defeat to MK Dons this season.

There are reports that Okoye could be set for a return to the Eredivisie, where he had an impressive two-year stint with Sparta Rotterdam on loan, when the transfer window reopens in January.

Speaking about the development, the former Fortuna Dusseldorf goalkeeper, who has a good reputation in the Netherlands agreed it’s not a bad idea. 

“We’ll see what happens. My contract runs until 2027, so anything is possible. Maybe I will be rented out, or not, I don’t know yet, ” Okoye said to Voetbal Primeur.

“The Eredivisie? Yes, that sounds like something to me. The clubs in the Netherlands know me well from Sparta and know what they can do with me. We’ll see.

“For now I’m just focusing completely on Watford and the games we’re going to play.”
