Nigeria more corrupt under Buhari, says cleric

-

A cleric, Prophet Sunday Iyunade, yesterday lambasted the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration for contesting the latest corruption perception index released by the Transparency International (TI) about Nigeria. Iyunade, who is the President, Pentecostal Sanctuary Bible Ministries, with headquarters in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, declared that all government parastatals had increased the art of corruption contrary to the public posturing of the Buhari administration and its anti-graft campaign.

The TI, a global anticorruption watchdog, had recently ranked Nigeria 148 of 180 countries and territories surveyed by their perceived levels of public sector corruption in the opinion of experts and business people. However, the Presidency faulted the report and wondered the criteria or facts used by TI “to arrive at its very misleading and unfair conclusions in its assessment of the Federal Government’s efforts in this anti-corruption crusade.”

But speaking at a press conference to herald the 22nd anniversary of the church, Iyunade said the evidence of increasing corruption and leadership deficit in the country were glaring. He said: “Transparency International rated Nigeria on corruption perception index; other nations didn’t talk. Why is Nigeria different? They know that their government is just lying.”
