Netizens react as marketers propose N1,200 per litre petrol price

By Ishaya Ibrahim

Nigerians have expressed shock with the report that petrol price may sell for N1,200 since the government no longer pays subsidy on the importation of the product.

A report by Punch quoted operators of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, saying with the crash of the naira against the United States dollar and the cost of crude oil, PMS should sell for N1,200 per litre in a free market.

But petrol, which currently is solely imported into Nigeria by the NNPCL, sells for between N617 per litre to N660 per litre, depending on the location of purchase in Nigeria.

Netizens have bared their minds on the likely increase in the price of petrol.

@Blesing_Andrew said: “Fuel 1200??? How much be person salary?”

@girliekenny said: “How many Nigerians can afford N1200? With a minimum wage of N30k?”

@Hitee_ said: “N1200/L is unthinkable, the news came out deliberately. It’ll most likely end up at N900/L and people will still defend it.”

@Alashkid said: “This fuel 1200 will favour me and my family. On your Mandate we shall trek Tinubu.”
