Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has insisted that his Turkish club, Beşiktaş, lost a league game to their Istanbul rivals, Fenerbahçe, due to poor officiating.

The Nigerian national football team captain made this known recently in a post shared on his official Instagram page.

Ndidi’s criticism followed Beşiktaş’ 1-0 defeat to their hosts, Fenerbahçe, at the Chobani Stadium on Sunday night.

During the highly intriguing encounter, the referee awarded a controversial late penalty against the visitors.

Ivory Coast international Emmanuel Agbadou was deemed to have fouled Dorgeles Nené inside the box.

However, replays suggest Agbadou won the ball cleanly, but the referee still awarded a spot kick.

Reacting to the decision after the match, Ndidi took to his verified handle to express his anger.

He wondered why the match officials snubbed the use of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) despite its availability.

He wrote: “How can you have VAR and decide not to check? I’m still trying to understand.”
