NCC welcomes newly appointed Board members, pledges commitment to advancing Nigeria’s digital economy

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has congratulated Chairman-designate of its Board, Idris Olorunnimbe, alongside other distinguished designate-Board members, as well as the designate-members of the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF) Board, on their appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has congratulated Chairman-designate of its Board, Idris Olorunnimbe, alongside other distinguished designate-Board members, as well as the designate-members of the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF) Board, on their appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

NCC made the commendation in a statement signed by its Executive Vice Chairman/ CEO, Dr. Aminu Maida. Maida described the team as comprising highly esteemed individuals of proven competence, with vast experience and impressive track records. He added that their collective expertise is expected to steer the communications industry in the right direction, providing the impetus to further transform Nigeria’s digital economy.

“They will bring to bear their wealth of knowledge, strategic insight, and strong governance to enhance the regulatory work of the Commission”, Maida noted.

NCC expressed its profound appreciation to President Tinubu for the appointments and looked forward to working closely with its supervising Ministry and the Board to deliver on the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda for Nigeria’s digital economy.

President Tinubu had on Wednesday constituted the boards of the NCC and retained Maida as the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Commission while Olorunnimbe was named the Chairman of the Board.

Maida was initially appointed to the position by the President in October 2023, while the Senate confirmed the appointment in November 2023.

Olorunnimbe previously served on the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) Board, where he chaired the Stakeholder and Governance Committee and drove impactful youth employment and entrepreneurship programmes.

Other members of the board are:

1. Abraham Oshidami – Executive Commissioner, Technical Services

2. Rimini Makama – Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management

3. Hajia Maryam Bayi- Former Director, Human Capital & Administration

4. Col Abdulwahab Lawal (Rtd)

5. Senator Lekan Mustafa

6. Chris Okorie

7. Princess Oforitsenere Emiko

8. Secretary of the Board.

The President also approved the Board of the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF), with Dr Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, as Chairman.

The Federal Government established the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF) to facilitate the achievement of national policy goals for universal access and service to information and communication technologies (ICTs) in rural, unserved and underserved areas in Nigeria.
