Portugal’s new captain, Bruno Fernandes, has insisted the bust-up between head coach Jorge Jesus and Al-Nassr forward Cristiano Ronaldo has to be resolved “internally”.
The Manchester United midfielder addressed the issue during a pre-match press conference ahead of Portugal’s UEFA Nations League match against Denmark.

Ronaldo left the camp before their UEFA Nations League clash with Denmark on Thursday, after Jesus left him on the bench for the Croatia game.
Following the departure of the 41-year-old from the camp in Copenhagen, Fernandes was appointed as captain by the gaffer.

Speaking about the saga, the Red Devils skipper noted that he has spoken with Ronaldo and assured him he remains the “greatest icon” in Portuguese football.
He added that his country’s national team is united and not divided despite the fallout between the duo.
Fernandes said: “I spoke with Cristiano Ronaldo and told him that he is, and will always remain, the greatest icon of our national team and our country.
“Our national team is united, not divided.
“Matters must be resolved internally and conclude well for both parties.”
