Natasha’s arraignment: It is FG versus All Reasonable People of Nigeria, says Oby Ezekwesili

By Ishaya Ibrahim

A former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili has argued that the scheduled  arraignment of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan today by the federal government was a case against the Nigerian people.

The Federal government filed criminal defamation charges against Natasha for alleging that the duo of Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, conspired to assassinate her. The Federal government then filed criminal charges against the Senator in two separate courts. Apart from today’s arraignment, the next one is on June 30.

In a post oh her X handle, Ezekwesili posted: “Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. The Federal Government of @NigeriaGov Versus All Reasonable People of Nigerian”

Meanwhile, the senator’s home was attacked on Tuesday by gunmen, one of them a ritualist was arrested at the scene.

The Kogi State Police Command has also  confirmed arresting one suspect allegedly linked to the attack.

The suspect, identified as Jose Suberu, was  apprehended at the scene of the attack in Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area, on Tuesday.

Confirming the development on Wednesday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, said the suspect had confessed to being part of the attack, per Punch report.

“Yes it’s true and one suspect, Joe Suberu was arrested at the scene. Efforts are on to arrest the fleeing others,” Aya said.

The Senator’s Media Office revealed that the armed men vandalised several windows.

“However, with the swift intervention of officers from the local police station, community vigilantes, and concerned youths, the attackers were repelled and one suspect was apprehended,” the statement read.

The media office further alleged that Suberu, a native of the community and described as a ritualist, confessed that this was his third time participating in attacks on the senator’s family residence.

He was reportedly linked to political opponents of the lawmaker.

A mob reportedly attempted to lynch the suspect before he was rescued and handed over to the police.

A cutlass and charms were recovered from him.

“A cutlass and charms were recovered from him. Other suspects involved in the attack, reportedly armed with dangerous weapons, remained at large at press time,” the statement added.

This is not the first time the senator’s home had come under attack. A similar attack occurred at the family compound in April, but no arrests were made at the time.
