Nasiru Gawuna quits APC, set to join Kwankwaso in ADC

Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the 2023 Kano State governorship election and former deputy governor, has resigned from the party.

In a resignation letter dated March 29, 2026, addressed to the APC chairman in Gawuna Ward, Nasarawa Local Government Area, Gawuna described his decision as voluntary and personal.

“I hereby formally resign my membership from the All Progressives Congress (APC), effective March 29, 2026,” the letter stated in part.

Gawuna thanked the party for the opportunities it provided during his membership. He did not specify his next political destination in the letter.

However, there are strong indications that he is set to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Gawuna was recently spotted with former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who formally joined the ADC on Monday, March 30, 2026.

The development comes shortly after Gawuna resigned as Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN).

In a separate letter dated March 27, 2026, addressed to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Gawuna said his resignation took immediate effect in compliance with President Bola Tinubu’s directive to political appointees ahead of the 2027 general elections, in line with the Electoral Act.
