Senator Ben Murray-Bruce has advised President Muhammadu Buhari not to punish the rich for their wealth.
Murray-Bruce said poverty is not a virtue and that wealth is a sign of hard work.
According to him, the job of leaders is not to equalize poverty but rather it is their job to spread prosperity.
Don’t punish the wealthy for being rich. Poverty is not a virtue. Wealth is not a sign of corruption. On the contrary, it is often a sign of hard work. Our job as leaders is not to equalise poverty. Rather, it is to spread prosperity. Wealth is to be admired, not suspected.
But as if countering Murray-Bruce, journalist and television host, Kadaria Ahmed, said the call for people to live within their means does not mean being anti-wealth.
“So don’t know how we started equating a call for people to live within their means of being anti-wealth. The hard truth is we have developed appetites that are not supported by our productivity. So what we need to do is recalibrate so our work supports our wants,” Ahmed said.
Ahmed said that people have developed appetites that are not supported by productivity.
According to her, Nigerians need to recalibrate so that “our work supports our wants.”
During the last election, there were insinuations that the Buhari campaign weaponized poverty and demonized the rich and the elites because of his main challenger, Atiku Abubakar’s call to liberalize the Nigerian economy.
