Muller speaks after Germany’s World Cup elimination

Muller, who plays for Bundesliga outfit, Bayern Munich,  also hinted that he might have played his last game in German colours

Bayern Munich forward, Thomas Muller, has opened up after Germany’s shock exit at the group stage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, saying he left “his heart on the pitch” for his country.

Die Mannschaft beat Costa Rica 4-2 on Thursday night, but Spain’s shocking 2-1 loss to Japan sent the four-time winner of the World Cup packing from the tournament.

They finished in the third position in Group E with four points, level with Spain but with an inferior goal difference of five goals.

Speaking after the game, Thomas Muller, who played in all three of Germany’s group-stage fixtures, including a 2-1 defeat to Japan and a 1-1 draw with Spain, told journalists after the win over Costa Rica that he gave his all in the matches.  

He also hinted that he might call it time on his international career after the World Cup

He said, “If this was my last game, it would be a huge pleasure. I have done it with love.

“We experienced incredible moments together. In every game, I tried to leave my heart on the pitch.”
