Messi hails Argentina U-20 team despite loss to Morocco, says ‘You defended the sky blue and white with your hearts’

Argentina captain, Lionel Messi, has lauded his country’s U-20 team despite losing the 2025 World Cup to Morocco.

The Albiceleste are the current holders of the global crown at the senior level and had been hoping to capture another trophy at the under-20 level.

Messi himself won the FIFA World Youth Championship twenty years ago.

However, it was Morocco who took the 2025 title, thanks to a brace from Yassir Zabrini.

With the win, the North Africans became the first African country to win the U-20 title since Ghana in 2009.

While consoling the Argentine junior team via a heartfelt message on Instagram, Messi said they had an incredible tournament despite losing in the final.

He went on to say the team played for the country with all their heart and made the South American nation proud.

He wrote, “Heads up, boys!!!! You had an incredible tournament, and even though we all wanted to see you lift the trophy, we’re left with the joy of everything you gave us and the pride of seeing how you defended the sky blue and white with your hearts.”
