The media war between Anambra State Governor, Dr. Willie Obiano, and his Imo State counterpart, Chief Rochas Okorocha, has drawn the wrath of Igbo leaders of the South East.
The leaders, who were unhappy with the current face-off sent the five governors of the South East to the cleaners, contending that instead of addressing issues that would better the interests of Ndigbo, they have taken the path of shamelessness.
The former President General of Ohanaeze Nfigbo, Dr. Dozie Ikedife, said that the faceoff was unhealthy for the Igbo struggle.
His words: “This is not healthy for Ndigbo. It is highly shameful and condemnable for our governors to be washing their dirty leaning in the public under the umbrella of party politics.
“In the past, we used to have the Governors’ Forum of the South East and governors met, irrespective of their political affiliations. Issues on the development of Igbo land were addressed and that was good for Ndigbo.”
Ikedife lamented that South East Governors’ Forum was dead and that the governors no longer meet.
“We do not have Governors’ Forum any longer. Everybody is interested in his political party. They should call themselves to order and stop this show of shame and public disgrace.
“This is not even healthy for the Biafra interest at all. What it all means is that should Ndigbo realize the dream of a Biafra Republic we will ultimately kill ourselves at the end of the day.
“Other tribes in Nigeria have always celebrated our lack of unity and they have always used it against us. So it is indeed shameful to say the least,” he said.
Also, the former
governor of Anambra State, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, said, “There is no point joining issues with one another. This is not proper. We have been governors before and it was not like this. When you go to the North you see the governors embark on developmental projects and they do not care which of the political parties that they belong. In our own case, it is a different kettle of fish.
“This attitude to governance will do us no good and the earlier they stop, the better for Ndigbo. One wonders what the South West and the rest of Nigerians feel about in the present circumstance.
“We did not elect them to fight naked in the public. We did not elect them to publicly disgrace the Igbo race.
“It is my view that the two governors should be made to stop this public disgrace of people and I urge the new leadership of Ohanaeze to call these governors to order.”
