Man electrocuted while vandalising power cable, police recover lifeless body

An unidentified man suspected of vandalising high tension power cables has been electrocuted in Abuja.

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Public Relations Officer Josephine Adeh confirmed that the lifeless body of the suspect was recovered from the site of  the infrastructure belonging to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).

Adeh said officers from the command responded to a distress call on Thursday and discovered the corpse near step-down electricity lines at Yakubu Gowon Crescent, Asokoro.

According to her, tools used for the alleged vandalisation were recovered at the scene but an accomplice fled before he could be arrested.

The command warned individuals against engaging in criminal activities, stressing that vandalisation of public infrastructure is a grave offence that will not be tolerated in the FCT.

“Security operatives remain on high alert to apprehend perpetrators and ensure the protection of critical national assets,” Adeh said in a statement.
