Man City beat Leicester 6-3 in a nine goal thriller

Man City lost a 4-0 first half lead, as Leicester City roared back in the second half to give the league leader a big scare

The Citizens held off a potential comeback by Leicester City to clinch a ninth successive Premier League win in a thrilling Boxing day fixture.

The home side opened the scoring as early as the 5th minute when Kelvin De Bruyne scored from an assist from Fernandinho to make it 1-0 to City. 

Riyad Mahrez made it 2-0 to the hosts, after converting a penalty, which was given after Youri Tielemans brought Aymeric Laporte down in the penalty box.  

IIkay Gundogan scored Manchester City’s third goal in the 21st minute after Leicester Keeper, Kasper Schmeichel dropped the ball after an initial save.

It soon became 4-0 four minutes later after another penalty was awarded when Youri Tielemans once again tripped Raheem Sterling, and he stepped up to convert the resultant penalty.

Leicester responded in the second half with goals from James Maddison, Ademola Lookman, and Kelechi Iheanacho in the 55th, 59th, and 65th minutes respectively, to reduce the deficit to 4-3.  

However, Aymeric Laporte restored a 2 goal lead to his team after conceding 3 quick goals, as he scored with his head from Riyad Mahrez’s corner kick. 

Man City eventually added a 6th goal in the 87th minute after Raheem Sterling scored from an assist from Ruben Dias to give the home side a comfortable 6-3 win and move six points clear at the top of the table
