Makinde puts campaign on hold over fuel, naira crisis

Makinde said the suspension was in solidarity with the people over the harrowing experiences in recent times following the scarcity of fuel and naira notes.

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has halted his re-election campaign until further notice over the lingering fuel and new naira note crisis.

The governor announced this at the flag-off of the Omi-Adio-Ido Road on Friday, according to a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Wasiu Olatubosun.

The 55-year-old governor and his team had visited some parts of the state prior to the suspension.

Makinde said that the suspension was in solidarity with the people over the harrowing experiences in recent times following the scarcity of fuel and naira notes.

Makinde, who was in Ido to continue his campaign, directed that all campaign activities be suspended, noting that the people’s suffering was too much.

The governor said that the decision was taken because he was elected to protect the interests and well-being of citizens of the state.

Makinde also directed leaders of the PDP in the state to suspend further political activities.

“Makinde’s love for his people necessitated this unprecedented move, at this time.

“We urge all residents and citizens of the state to remain calm as we navigate through this difficult period together,” the statement said.
